The FLYSURFER Kiteboarding Team had an intense August, with exciting competitions, and lots of kiting, testing, and legendary parties. At the same time, two major events held in the north of Germany provided plenty of action.
At the 2017 Kitesurf Masters tour finale, held in Sankt Peter Ording between August 9th–13th, athletes competed in the disciplines of racing, freestyle and slalom for the German championship (DM) title. In the racing discipline, FLYSURFER team rider Jannis Maus dominated this season and secured the DM title. Elias Ouahmid took the runner-up spot, followed by FLYSURFER athlete Darian Rubbel, from Kiel, in third place. The winner in the Women’s racing division was our own Leonie Meyer, also from Kiel. “It was a great event, with a great organization on the water and good luck with the wind. I am very happy that I could win here”, said Jannis Maus.
In addition to the competitions of elite kiters, one of the world’s largest kite test events (testivals) took place on Ordinger Beach. All recreational kiters were able to test FLYSURFER and Levitaz products and put them through their paces at the testpoint. The FLYSURFER & Levitaz stand, with its product portfolio, photo booth, hot tub from Saunawelt Hamburg, and a legendary party with DJ Rene Cruz, was definitely a highlight at the event location. It was a stellar 5 days, which we will not soon forget. According to event organizers, over 40,000 fun-sport fans and vacationers made the pilgrimage to the event.

The next big sporting event, the Mercedes-Benz Kitesurf World Cup at Fehmarn, followed shortly afterward, from August 18th–27th. At the only stop in Germany for the HydroFoil Pro Tour, spectators were able to see exciting races in the Formula 1 of kitesurfing, where the foils streaked over the Baltic Sea at speeds of up to 70 km / h. Despite the difficult wind conditions, he FLYSURFER team showed consistency through every day of the competition and secured great rankings. In the Men’s class, Olly Bridge finished third in the contest, followed by Guy Bridge in fourth place, and Florian Gruber in fifth place.
The Bridge Brothers also made it to the podium in the Youth classes. In the Men’s master class, the FLYSURFER athletes Marvin Baumeister and Reinhold Gehrer took second and third place, respectively. On the Women’s side, the FLYSURFER team dominated, and riders Steph Bridge, Leonie Mayer and Sabrina Slossnikel filled the entire podium. We are proud of all of our men and women who competed — congratulations!
On Friday, Florian Gruber played the leading role at the Mercedes-Benz Kitesurf World Cup Fehmarn when he set a new record for circling the island. For this unique “Race around the island” in the Baltic Sea, the lightning-fast Bavarian was able to circumnavigate Fehmarn faster than the 16-time German windsurfing champion and record holder Bernd Flessner, who needed 2 hours, 48 minutes eight years ago. Florian Gruber smashed this record, with a time of 1 hour, 43 minutes — 65 minutes faster than the Windsurf legend. You have our total respect!
